Request for Application and Qualification by the CSHS - Feasibility of Professional Hydrologist designation in Canada

Written by
The Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences (CSHS) is seeking a research consultant to complete a 3-month contract to determine the feasibility of a Professional Hydrologist (P. Hydrol.) designation in Canada. The selected consultant will effectively communicate research findings with CSHS-PHCC and CSHS Executive Committee.

CSHS is a national organization of individuals from public, private and academic sectors. Members are interested in the hydrological sciences encompassing physical, chemical and biological processes in both surface and ground water, and in land surface/atmospheric interactions. CSHS is affiliated with the Canadian Water Resource Association (CWRA), and is associated with the Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU), and provides linkages with the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) through activities such as the Prediction in Ungauged Basins (PUB) initiative.

The Professional Hydrologist Certification Committee (CSHS-PHCC) is a volunteer committee comprised of members of CSHS who are interested in researching the potential opportunity for a professional hydrology designation in Canada. The committee is composed of members from public and private sectors, as well as students and young professionals from a variety of hydrological backgrounds. The committee was formed early this fall following a survey whose purpose was to gauge the interest of CWRA/CSHS members in having a professional designation for hydrologists in Canada.
